Growth

For me, the biggest growth from my practicum was realizing that I am the best teacher when I’m doing it my way. I am, by nature, a people pleaser so throughout my different practicum experiences I struggled to mould myself to what my Teacher Mentors and Faculty Mentors wanted. I tried to be a different person for every practicum. I struggled with trying to be what everyone wanted me to be instead of what I wanted to be. I learned so much from my Teacher Mentors, and I will take pieces and techniques that I learned from them into my career. However, I now know that I need to be the teacher that I am meant to be. My biggest growth is finding out who I am: I know that I am personable, great at one-on-one talks, and connecting with the students. I am patient and caring. I know that I want to look for the good in everything and everyone, and that I want to see the magic in the world the way my students see it. I am not finished in my growth, I know that I will change and grow for the rest of my career, but I know who I am now and I know that I will be a great teacher that can help students grow and learn who they are.
