B.C.’s Professional Standards for Educators are a new concept to me. I have not had a job where there are explicit and high level of standards for the employee before. To me these standards ensure that teachers are all working to make the profession a wholesome, credible, and student focused space to work in. They put the onus on each and every teacher to be responsible for upholding the high standards of effective and healthy classrooms. Teachers play a big role in the development of the next generation, thus we need to hold ourselves to a high level of expectation in order to encourage well-adjusted, empathetic, and happy students.
