B.C. Curriculum

I find B.C.’s curriculum website to be very forward thinking. Instead of giving specific topics for us to teach, it gives ideas and concepts. This makes so much sense in today’s world as we all have a computer in our pockets at all times so there is no need to remember precise facts. Instead, teaching main concepts and ideas as well as teaching how to be a lifelong learner is a more effective use of the little time we have with students. I start all of my lesson planning here, looking at what the students are expected to know, what they should have learned from the grade before, and what they will continue on to learn in the next grade in some cases. The B.C. Curriculum offers me a map of what I should be teaching, while also letting me choose which roads I want to take.
