In December 2020 I completed and was awarded Thompson Rivers University’s Global Competency Certificate. This certificate means a lot to me. The experience of completing the requirements for this certificate showed me how meaningful my cross cultural and global learning has been. I will look back on this certificate and use it as inspiration to bring that sort of global minded openness to my classroom and students. With Canada being so diverse and multicultural it is important that I know how to recognise this and encourage individuality and diversity within the classroom and within the students themselves.

In January 2019 I was awarded the IK Barber One World International Scholarship. This award recognizes high achievement in school and awards money to students who will be spending time abroad. The committee saw my commitment to my studies and saw how this would benefit me in my time abroad. I am aware that my socioeconomic status allowed me to focus on my studies as I was financially stable enough to only work part time, and there was no stress regarding my finances. I feel very lucky to have received this award as it gave me the opportunity to experience and travel so much more during my studies abroad.
In 2013 I completed my level one and level two cook certificates. I cherish my time going through the professional cook program as it taught me a lot. This life experience will help me connect with students. Not everyone will want to, or be able to go into higher levels of studying or into scholarly pursuits and as teachers we should understand and encourage this. I would love to teach a cooking course one day as a teacher because cooking is a life skill that everyone should know. It would be great to show students how to make healthy and fun food so they can be independant and use this concrete skill for the rest of their lives.
